Bartender Review

Upon the release of my last review of TellMeWhen I got a few comments on my UI setup:

null

The UI looked messy and confusing. I even remember getting a comment on this when apping to guilds before. So I decided to look at a bar mod to clean up my screen. I looked at a few and eventually decided on Bartender. After some tweaking and editing I turned that mess into this:
null

A huge improvement and it really helped. I like how the bars scale and can be configured into any sort of combination of rows, columns and scale for the bars. The only thing I could recommend would be if the owner of Bartender and the creator of Autobar could make a beautiful bar baby.

I highly recommend this for anyone who find their UI messy and want a simple, accessible UI without all the flowery features. You can find Bartender at this link here.

Messy Shmessy LOL I have buttons all over the place, my UI might not win a simplistic beauty contest but it works for me. I LIKE having buttons in the middle of the screen easy to reach and I like having access to just about everything around the sides rather than scrolling through my spell book every time I want to fish etc. I see plenty thank you very much hehe ;) Seriously, I look at some people’s UI’s and wonder how the heck they can get anything done with only 5 buttons or whatever. I am looking for a new bar mod ONLY because I’d like to find something that can make a bar 5×2 instead of always 10×1. It’d be nice if we could have more than 10 bars too – not that I’d fill every slot up, but it’s just nice to be able to place what you want where you want it. It should be more about how your own mind works and organizes things than looking tidy to a minimalist. One last thing, I use power auras and I love it – it puts an aura around my body every time my shield is down. You can set it up so that it shows when your shield is on but I have found “hey get that stuff off my screeen” ::button click:: more effective than “hmmm is something missing?” lol Thanks for the review :) BTW I use CT and have since day one with no complaints other than maybe not being able to “bend” the bars in half…. ~Sara

    Thanks for your comment Sara,

I can udnerstand that everyone has a different style of preference for how they want their UIs to work and yours is no less valid than mine. I like the minimalist look because I use maybe 4 buttons constantly, and about 20 situational. I would still recommend Bartender in your case for a couple reasons however:

    1. It gets rid of the superfluous graphics (The griffin statues)
    2. It does bend bars into columns like you said you wanted

As for the 10 bar limit that is unfortunately a limit of game mechanics :(

Thanks for that info – makes sense. I thought maybe I was the only one with an irrational need for another hundred buttons lol! FTR CT does get rid of the graphics and bottom bar dismantles the bar so you can customize it – I don’t think there are many differences except perhaps the bar bending…

I have this newish toy that I haven’t set up yet… it is called nostromo (by belkin – n52) and I was thinking that 5 buttons across would be handier for this, I’m not sure how much I want to invest in the learning curve atm though.

Oh and I agree that everyone should set up their UI the way they like it – I was just coming to your defense to ignore the complainers LOL :)

Ah yes, I have something similar tot he Nostromo but I just couldn’t get into it. It’s a cool idea, but I found it would better serve someone who played competitive FPS or RTS games rather than a button mashing MMO. There isn’t a need (correct me if I’m wrong for arenas or whatever) for fancy movements.
