Heroic: Glory of the Raider
Ok, so Saithir of The Angry Dwarfs made a post asking about the three achievements we are most proud of. Now Trustyn being a big fat idiot decided to ignore the three rules and not notice it until he made a giant post on something. I still think it’s good so screw the rules. If you want to blog on your own or comment here and tell us what three achievements you are most proud of.
I am currently one achievement away from the coveted Black Protodrake. That one achievement of course is considered the hardest thing ever. I thought I would go through this Meta Achievement that I could have as early as tomorrow and talk about the long epic journey of getting the Black Protodrake.
The Dedicated Few (Doing Naxx with 20 People): This achievement entails clearing Naxx with 20 people. We did this a few weeks ago as a final send off for our guild leader who went off to boot camp for the Navy. It was a tight group of all of our top raiders, and the tightened belt meant we all had to be responsible for more of what we were doing. Now when we did 8 man Naxx it was tough, but 20 Man Naxx doesn’t look to be that rough. Sorry to say it is. 20 Man Naxx was deceptively hard, especially once you got into the fights like Thaddius, Kel’Thuzad, and Loatheb you found the missing five people begin to weigh in on you.
Make Quick Werk of Him (Kill Patchwerk in under 3 Minutes): I do recall back to when this was an actual achievement. We felt pretty proud of ourselves for being able to get this achievement the first time. Nowadays since we are all super competitive we get this achievement every week in an attempt to beat our record.
Momma Said Knock You Out (Kill Faerlina without downing any adds): This achievement was really easy and after a certain point when you have enough gear it’s just easier to kill all the adds after the boss is dead and turn the fight into a dps race.
Shocking (Noone cross the streams on Thaddius): This is actually one of the harder ones to do. We eventually did get this achievement, but it took a couple hours of trying and wiping if someone screwed it up. I haven’t screwed Thaddius up wince like the 40-man so it wasn’t a particular challenge to me.
Subtraction (Do Thaddius with 20 People): We did this the same night as we did The Dedicated Few
You Don’t Have an Eternity (Kill Malygos in under 6 Minutes): This one took nearly a month of attempts to get under our belts. I remember the week before we got it we killed Malygos in 6 mins 1 second. When we got the achievement our time was like 5 mins 59 sec which was crazy.
Gonna Go When The Volcano Blows (Avoid all Lava Strikes on Sarth): Right after we got Shocking we had a bunch of players with just this and Immortal left to go before we had the drakes. So when we got to sarth we killed all the drakes for that week and seven people with just two left got to kill themselves and get the achievement. This one needs to be reworked imo.
The Twilight Zone (Do Sarth 3D): We did this so long ago I forgot when it was done. I now feel the fight’s weird when we don’t do 3 Drakes, but I know a lot of people see this as really hard. It is the pinnacle of raid progression at the moment.
Just Can’t Get Enough (Kill 18 Aboms in the first phase of Kel’Thuzad): Actually a lot harder than it looks. This was the last achievement I got with my old guild before moving to Bladefist and if I recall we were planning on skipping it when our guild leader began to pull them all. In vent he was yelled at and he simply responded, “Achievemeeeeent”
Arachnophobia (Clear Spider Wing in under 20 Minutes): We normally clear the wing in about this time. I think when we tried to get the achievement we only had to push on the gas a little bit.
The Safety Dance (Do Heigan without any deaths): I’ve done Heigan as far back as 2006 with the original Naxx and his dance was much harder. I have it so engrained in my mind that I don’t even need to think anymore to do Heigan properly. We more or less do this weekly now.
The Immortal (Kill all the Naxx bosses without anyone dying on a boss fight): Achievement Pending >_>
And They Would All Go Down Together (Kill the Four Horsemen within 15 seconds of Each Other): This is a fun achievement moreso than difficult. It requires doing the boss in a new way than you’re used to and changes up the fight dynamic without increasing difficulty too much. I remember this one fondly because I recall doing it like the day I joined my current guild.
The Spellweaver’s Downfall (Kill Malygos): Achieved on December 12th 2008, less than a month after Wrath’s release… has to be worth something.
A Poke in the Eye (Kill Malygos with 20 people): I think one day we were short a couple people on a night we were going to try 6 min malygos and decided to do this instead. I don’t remember it being too bad but we definitely took a lot longer, especially in stage 3.
Denyin’ the Scion (Deliver the Killing Blow on a Scion of Eternity during Malygos): I think I got this one by accident when we were attempting 6 minute Malygos and all the wipes that ensued
The Hundred Club (Kill Sapphiron with everyone in the raid having less than 100 Frost resistance): I honestly don’t recall ever wearing resist gear for Sapphiron after the reboot for Wrath. I know it was entirely a frost resist fight in vanilla but the damage is easy to mitigate now. I got this achievement on New Years Eve
I’m really proud of these achievements. They represent a lot of work and maybe tomorrow I can finally have a proper cadence on this chapter of Wrath of the Lich King. If that is done, I will feel officially ready to face Ulduar.
